The development consists of a three storey rear extension and conversion of existing public house to form restaurant and 8No. residential flats above. The building was in desperate need of renovation and refurbishment to ensure it was not left to deteriorate further from its current state.
The approach to the design of the project was to retain as much of the existing structure and openings as possible. By introducing a full height glazed link, this provides a physical break between the new and old. The new extension is finished with a blue render and is more modern in design but still reflects the style and character of the original part.
The proposed extensions when viewed from Bromsgrove Street and Lion Street do not detract from the original building. The old rear extensions and fire escapes were all be removed and the extension has tidied this area up and enhanced the overall appearance of the site. The site is well situated for access to Kidderminster Town Centre, public transport and nearby employment opportunities.
